On Yet Another Derrick Van Orden Outburst

MADISON, Wis. — Today, Derrick Van Orden devolved into yet another rage-fueled outburst—this time on the House floor when he “dramatically” escalated an argument, calling fellow Republican Matt Gaetz “tubby.”

“Today’s outburst by Derrick Van Orden is just another tally in a long line of temper tantrums that are utterly unbecoming of a Member of Congress,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Haley McCoy. “Derrick Van Orden has turned himself and his office into a laughingstock, and proven time and again that he lacks the temperament to represent Wisconsin in Congress.”

Derrick Van Orden has a long history of temper tantrums:

• Cursing at Teenage Senate Pages: Derrick Van Orden cursed at teenage Senate pages while giving a late-night tour of the U.S. Capitol, calling them “lazy sh—” and told them to “get the f— up” off the floor. The pages, high school-aged teenagers, were lying on their backs taking a picture of the Capitol Rotunda dome at around midnight during their last week of work.
   
• Harassing Library Volunteers: Derrick Van Orden berated a teenage
  volunteer at a public library over an LGBTQ+ book display, allegedly calling the display “disgusting.” Library staff felt “threatened” and “terrified” by Van Orden’s outburst, with one volunteer telling her parents she no longer felt safe at work.
   
• Cursing at White House Officials: Derrick Van Orden launched a “belligerent” and “curse-laden” tirade at White House officials during a briefing on the Hamas terrorist attack. When a House colleague responded “shame on you” to Van Orden, he then retaliated with more obscenities.
   
• Disrupting the State of the Union: Derrick Van Orden caused a public outburst during President Biden’s State of the Union address, shouting “lies” when President Biden criticized Donald Trump’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
