Tim Michels Says He’ll “Put Everything On The Table” to Gut Public Education
“So removing, completely removing property taxes as a way to fund education, I’m going to put everything on the table.”
MADISON, Wis. — On WSAU Feedback this morning, Tim Michels confirmed that he plans to drastically decrease a crucial source of public education funding, which would gut funding to public schools by 40%.
Michels has also said that continuing to fund public education is “the definition of insanity” and that he would consider abolishing Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction. This would completely demolish public schools in Wisconsin, and leave them with few resources. It’s no wonder Michels concedes he is “not an expert on education.”
Gov. Evers has always done the right thing for parents, students, and teachers. As a lifelong educator, Gov. Evers has worked to make historic investments into Wisconsin’s schools, including meeting the state’s two-thirds funding commitment for the first time in nearly two decades, and has a plan to build on the successes of his first four years in office. Today, our schools are ranked in the top ten in the nation, after falling to 17th under the previous administration.
“Tim Michels’ radical plan would ‘put everything on the table’ when it comes to defunding our public schools and harming students, teachers, and parents,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Hannah Menchhoff. “Governor Evers has a proven track record of leading the way on improving and investing in Wisconsin’s public education.”
