MADISON, Wis. — This morning, NRSC Chairman Steve Daines told National Journal that national Republicans are lining up behind California bank owner Eric Hovde (R–Laguna Beach), as they continue to stare down “another GOP civil war” and feud with the leading prospective candidate, former Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke.
All of the prospective GOP Senate candidates would enable Republicans to pass a national abortion ban. Hovde is “100% pro-life,” and wants to protect life “from conception.” Clarke has repeatedly called for bans on abortion, and Scott Mayer said he would consider supporting an abortion ban.
“National Republicans know Hovde has a radical record of opposing a woman’s right to make her own medical decisions, which is exactly why they are lining up behind him. But as last night’s election results, and the Wisconsin Supreme Court election earlier this year both showed, rolling back reproductive freedoms is out-of-touch with the people and with Wisconsin values,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Arik Wolk.
