WisDems Statement on the 2024 State of the Tribes Address
MADISON, Wis. — Ahead of the 2024 State of the Tribes address, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler issued the following statement:
“Wisconsin is honored today to hear from James Crawford, the Chairman of the Forest County Potawatomi, for the 20th State of the Tribes address. Chairman Crawford continues the tradition of invaluable dialogue between our state and Wisconsin’s 11 federally-recognized tribes—who are essential partners for our state and nation, and integral members of our Wisconsin community.
“The State of the Tribes provides all of us an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the issues facing Native Nations and to celebrate the values and traditions of Native communities. Today, we recommit to honoring Wisconsin’s Native sovereignty, protecting our land, air, and water, and ending the epidemic of missing and endangered Indigenous women once and for all. We’re grateful for Chairman Crawford and all of our Native communities for helping to lead the work to build a Wisconsin of which we can all be proud.”
