WisDems Chair Ben Wikler Congratulates Wisconsin’s Constitutional Officers on Inauguration Day
MADISON, Wis. — Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement congratulating Governor Tony Evers, Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez, Attorney General Josh Kaul, Secretary of State Doug La Follette, and Treasurer John Leiber on their swearing in this morning:
“Today is January 3rd, 2023, and, to quote Governor Tony Evers, we are jazzed as hell to congratulate our state’s Constitutional Officers on their inauguration at the State Capitol this morning.
“The swearing in ceremonies this morning marked the culmination of years of hard work and dedication to building a fairer and more equitable Wisconsin. We’ve seen remarkable progress over the last four years under Gov. Evers’ common sense leadership and Attorney General Kaul’s steadfast commitment to defending the will of Wisconsinites in court, and we know that our state will continue to move forward during the next four years. Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez will be a dynamite partner for Governor Evers as they do the right thing for Wisconsin each day, and Secretary of State La Follette will continue to prevent Republicans from turning the Secretary of State office into a vehicle for the GOP’s attacks on democracy. Treasurer Leiber may be a Republican, but the mark of a democracy is the peaceful transfer of power even in moments when partisan control changes hands.
“The Democratic Party of Wisconsin heartily thanks our outgoing officers, Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes and Treasurer Sarah Godlewski, on their exemplary service to the state of Wisconsin over the last four years. We’re grateful for their work, and are confident that they will continue to contribute to our great state for years to come.
“Congratulations to Governor Evers and Attorney General Josh Kaul on their second inauguration, and to Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez and Treasurer John Leiber as they take their oaths of office for the first time. And congratulations to Doug La Follette as he embarks on his 12th term as our Secretary of State. We thank you for your commitment to our state, and anticipate the progress we will make over the next four years — together.”
