Wisconsin Democrats on Vice President Kamala Harris’ Debate Victory
MADISON, Wis. — Following Vice President Kamala Harris’ commanding victory in tonight’s presidential debate, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler issued the following statement:
“Hands down, Kamala Harris won tonight’s debate—and it wasn’t close. The joy, excitement, and energy at hundreds of watch parties and online tonight is going to fuel a wave of organizing on the ground to ensure that Wisconsin is blue in November. Wisconsinites tuning into tonight’s debate saw a clear contrast between Vice President Kamala Harris’ vision for a brighter, more hopeful future for all Americans, and the angry, divisive, and extreme Project 2025 agenda pushed by Donald Trump.
“Kamala Harris triumphed on the debate stage tonight because she is the right candidate at the right time, with a plan to grow our economy and lower costs, all while strengthening our democracy and fighting for our freedoms. Tonight’s debate made it clear that Kamala Harris has what it takes not only to defeat Donald Trump, but to move our country forward.
“Donald Trump clearly had no answer to Kamala Harris tonight. What is clear is that another Trump term would be an unmitigated disaster. If given a second term in the White House, Donald Trump would only deepen his attacks on our most fundamental freedoms. Trump refused to say he’d veto an abortion ban—because he wants to institute one. He refused to concede that he lost the 2020 election—because he wants to overturn elections. He refused to acknowledge that his only economic plan would drive up costs for middle class families—because his only economic goal is to dole out tax cuts to the rich. He wants unchecked power for himself and unchecked control over our lives.
“Make no mistake: even though this debate was a lopsided victory for Harris, this will be an incredibly close election. Despite Trump’s chaotic, shambolic performance tonight, the threat of a second Trump term is very real. Harris’s margin of victory will come down to her supporters’ margin of effort, and with less than 60 days to go until Election Day, Wisconsin Democrats will be organizing across the state to elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz and put us on a path to a brighter and freer future.”
