MADISON, Wis. — As Derrick Van Orden, Bryan Steil, Mike Gallagher and the rest of Wisconsin’s Republicans line up behind Jim Jordan in today’s vote for Speaker, here are a few quick things to know about Jordan’s extreme record in DC:
-
- Jim Jordan Supports Slashing Social Security & Medicare. Jordan voted for Paul Ryan’s plan to end Social Security and Medicare as we know them, and has repeatedly backed extreme GOP plans to slash both of these essential programs.
-
- Jim Jordan Staunchly Opposes Access To Safe & Legal Abortion. Jordan celebrated the overturning of Roe as a “victory” and celebrated Trump for putting “the right people” on the Supreme Court to deliver the Dobbs decision and end abortion access for millions nationwide. Jordan also supports a new nationwide abortion ban and has urged Republicans to “lean into” abortion restrictions.
- Jim Jordan Is Congress’ Leading Election Denier. In the wake of Trump’s 2020 loss, Jordan lied incessantly about the results, making numerous baseless claims of fraud and pushing for Mike Pence to overturn the election by rejecting electoral votes.
Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Joe Oslund issued the following statement:
“Jordan’s attacks on the Medicare and Social Security benefits working Wisconsinites depend on, his anti-abortion extremism, and his incessant lies about our elections are all deeply out of step with Wisconsin values. With this vote, Bryan Steil and Derrick Van Orden are putting Jim Jordan’s DC extremism ahead of finding meaningful solutions to issues that matter for Wisconsin families.”
