Western Wisconsin Democrats Kick Off 3rd District Unity Tour

MADISON, Wis. — Earlier today, Democrats in Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District kicked off a two-day tour in western Wisconsin to energize voters and elect Democrats up and down the ticket in November. Democratic candidate for Congress Rebecca Cooke joined fellow primary candidates Katrina Shankland and Eric Wilson to campaign alongside Democratic candidates for the state Assembly and Senate. Speaking in Stevens Point, Menomonie, and Eau Claire, the candidates came together to showcase Democratic unity to defeat Derrick Van Orden and other Republicans in the state Legislature.

See what speakers had to say, in part, below:

Rebecca Cooke: “We’re going to have to turn out Democrats in November, but we’re also going to have to turn out other folks too. We’re going to have to turn out swing, moderate, and independent voters and broaden our big Democratic tent. What I know of Katrina is that she is real and she is authentic and she is a fighter, and I know that she’s going to keep fighting for everybody up and down this ticket. […]  And I’m looking forward to working with her and with Eric Wilson and with everybody in this room for our common cause, which is defeating Derrick Van Orden and sending him packing here in 80-some days.”

Katrina Shankland: “There are so many reasons why we came together today to not only stand up for our democracy and our freedoms, but also work really hard to elect our entire Democratic ticket, including Rebecca Cooke, our Third CD nominee. Derrick Van Orden, as we all know, is an extremist. We know he was at the Capitol on January 6. We know he doesn’t represent us. He can’t even get a bill passed. But even more than that, you know he’s really stood lockstep with people like JD Vance and Donald Trump, and the stakes in this election specifically could not be higher.”

Eric Wilson: “I want to offer my heartfelt congratulations to Rebecca Cooke on becoming the Democratic nominee, and I pledge to her and her team my full support and endorsement as they begin the enormous task of taking on Derrick Van Orden in the General Election. Rebecca is someone who is in touch with the needs of the working people of this district. Last night was a victory for all political outsiders and those who do not feel like their voices have been heard. I am excited to see what Rebecca and I will build together, because only together, can we defeat Derrick Van Orden.”
