WATCH: Ron Johnson Unable To Defend Spindell in Disastrous CNN Interview
MADISON, Wis. — In an interview last night with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Ron Johnson struggled to defend Wisconsin Elections Commissioner Bob Spindell, who recently admitted in a legal settlement that his actions as a fake elector in 2020 contributed to Trump’s plot to overturn his Wisconsin loss.
Johnson even attacked efforts to hold Wisconsin’s 10 fake electors accountable, claiming last week’s settlement in a civil case was a “travesty” and accusing plaintiffs in the case of “harassing these poor individuals.”
Like Bob Spindell, Johnson also played his own part in Trump’s schemes to remain in power:
- Johnson infamously attempted to hand-deliver slates of fake Trump electors to Mike Pence, in the hopes Pence would introduce the slates while counting electoral votes on January 6th.
- According to testimony from former Wisconsin GOP chair Andrew Hitt, Johnson also attempted to pressure the GOP-controlled Wisconsin Legislature into overturning Trump’s loss by somehow appointing Trump electors directly.
Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Joe Oslund issued the following statement:
“It’s no surprise Ron Johnson is having a hard time defending Bob Spindell’s conduct—like Spindell, Ron Johnson was neck deep in Trump’s plot to overturn the 2020 election here in Wisconsin. It’s beyond clear that someone involved in an unlawful attempt to overturn a free and fair election has no business overseeing our elections, just as someone who attempted to invalidate the votes of his own constituents has no business in the U.S. Senate.”
