VIDEO RECAP: Rep. Francesca Hong Responds to Eric Hovde Saying Single Parents Lack “Morals and Ethics”
MADISON, Wis. — Today, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin hosted a press call with state Rep. Francesca Hong responding to recently uncovered comments from Eric Hovde where he insulted single parents, saying that growing up in a single parent home puts kids on a “direct path to a life of poverty.” Hovde repeatedly blamed single parents for societal problems playing into racist stereotypes that demonize Black mothers, and saying they lack “morals and ethics.”

“These single parents, they’re working hard, and they’re kicking ass in their communities. And that’s why they’re tired,” Hong said. “We are tired, and we are definitely tired of out-of-touch Eric Hovdes of the world who don’t respect the work that every single single parent in this state does every single day.”
In Wisconsin, nearly 400,000 children live in single parent families. If Eric Hovde cannot respect the single parents and their families in Wisconsin, how can he possibly represent us in the U.S. Senate?
