REMINDER: Bryan Steil Voted Against the CHIPS and Science Act That’s Creating Jobs in Southern Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. — Tomorrow, the Badger State celebrates the two year anniversary of President Biden signing the CHIPS and Science Act into law. This bipartisan legislation brought huge investments in economic development home to south-central Wisconsin—but every single Wisconsin Republican in Congress voted against it, including Bryan Steil.

“By voting against the CHIPS and Science Act, Bryan Steil voted against bringing new investments and jobs back to his own district—something that should be a no-brainer,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Deputy Communications Director Haley McCoy. “After five years in Congress, Bryan Steil has nothing to show for his district or our state, and voters in southeast Wisconsin are ready to show him the door come November.”

Here’s how the CHIPS and Science Act Bryan Steil opposed is benefitting Wisconsin:

  • Wisconsin is set to become a biohealth tech hub, bringing $49 million in investments for life-saving advanced research. Thanks to the CHIPS and Science Act and leadership from Sen. Tammy Baldwin, Wisconsin businesses, colleges, and economic development agencies will receive $49 million to develop a biohealth tech hub that will help Wisconsin’s growing biohealth industry to advance health research and medicine and save lives with new technologies and innovations.

  • The technology hub is projected to create thousands of new job opportunities for Wisconsinites. The new technology hub is projected to bring an estimated 30,000 direct jobs and 111,000 indirect jobs across the state.

  • The CHIPS and Science act has also encouraged public and private partnerships to spur economic growth. Through research and development efforts, the new technology hub designation is estimated to generate $9 billion worth of economic development across the state.
