RADIO ROUND UP: This Week’s Right-Wing Talk Radio Lowlights
MADISON, Wis. — Welcome to Radio Round Up, the new weekly newsletter from the Democratic Party of Wisconsin rounding up the wildest and weirdest things Republican politicians said on right-wing talk radio over the last seven days.
Assembly candidate Elijah Behnke launches broadsides against fellow Republican Peter Schmidt over per-diem funded “lifestyle change”
Appearing on WTAQ’s Regular Joe Show on Thursday, State Rep. Elijah Behnke unloaded his primary opponent, fellow GOP State Representative Peter Schmidt. Accusing Schmidt of abusing his per diem to fund a “lifestyle change” and live in Madison full time, Behnke vented about being attacked himself by the Stronger Wisconsin Fund, a GOP dark money group targeting Republican primary candidates across the state. And while Republicans may be in disarray, the Behnke family is not—Elijah made sure to work in an endorsement for his father, Darwin Behnke, running the 4th Assembly District, the seat Elijah holds now but is giving up to challenge Schmidt.
ELIJAH BEHNKE: “So Peter Schmidt has maxed out his per diem. Each legislator gets $20,000 for the two year term to, like, pay for food and hotels in Madison. He doesn’t have a committee. He was a freshman. He did one bill, and it was, you know, ridiculous bill, and he basically lived down in Madison the whole time. So if he had a lifestyle change, why wasn’t he back home listening at town halls and going to the Towns Association? He never had a listening session. He just does what he’s told and is a loyal soldier, and that’s why the lobby corps is funding his campaign. And I know we don’t have a lot of time, so I want to give my dad a shout out. He’s on the ballot in the fourth Assembly District. So the good people of Howard and Suamico and Oconto can vote for a Behnke. I’m fully endorsing him. The Stronger Wisconsin Fund is attacking me and my dad, and it’s just because we want to stand up for the people that actually pay our salaries and pay their taxes, and they’re just beating us up over silly little things, right? Like they lie, like I was hiding $15,000 in campaign funds. Well, that’s not true. I was late on reporting $1,500 in campaign funds. Well, they add a zero and spend thousands of dollars putting it there and it’s not true.”
Andre Jacque tells listeners there’s no room in the GOP for anyone who doesn’t agree the 2020 election was rigged
Appearing on WTAQ’s Schroeder Show last Saturday, André Jacque continued to struggle to set himself apart from Tony Wied, his Trump-endorsed opponent in the 8th Congressional District GOP primary. Perhaps thinking there’s still time to get Trump to change his mind, Jacque proudly asserted that “we don’t want people who still don’t know or don’t tink that the election was rigged.” For good measure, Jacque capped it all off with a shot at GOP Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, who Jacque has feuded with for years.
ANDRÉ JACQUE: “When it comes to election integrity, we don’t want people who still don’t know or don’t think that the election was rigged and don’t know what the issues are. I’m happy to be the candidate that has forcibly been out there calling out Robin Vos.”
Tom Tiffany advises listeners to “help win this battle” by signing up for Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service
Appearing on WIBA’s Vicki McKenna Show on Thursday, Congressman Tom Tiffany rallied listeners to the cause… of lining Elon Musk’s pockets. Suggesting that if listeners “can’t give 1,000 or 10,000 dollars to a candidate or campaign” the next best thing is to “do business with Elon Musk” by signing up for Starlink internet—a service that starts at $120 a month plus equipment costs of $300 or more. According to Tom Tiffany, giving your money to Elon Musk—worth more than $200 billion—is “one of the small ways the average citizen can help win this battle.”
TOM TIFFANY: “If you’re a type of person that you can’t give 1,000 or 10,000 dollars to a political candidate or campaign, or whatever. The thing you can do, though, is do business with Elon Musk. I do. I have Starlink. That is one way. Get your, get your broadband internet, get it from Starlink. That’s the way to, one of the small ways the average citizen can help win this battle.”
Andre Jacque promises to abolish the Department of Education and withdraw from the United Nations
Appearing on WTAQ’s Regular Joe Show today, 8th District Congressional candidate André Jacque doubled down on a far-out promise ripped straight from Donald Trump’s Project 2025: eliminating the Department of Education. Jacque also again promised to withdraw the United States from the United Nations, leaving the US as one of the only territories on Earth without a seat in the international body.
ANDRE JACQUE […] “Of course, I’ve already committed that I want to eliminate the Department of Education. That’s a bill that’s already out there, just like there’s legislation out there about getting the US out of the UN and any number of the, you know, large expenditures that we have. Subsidies for things like wind turbines. Let’s see, federal grant programs, there are quite a few of those that I would be prepared to eliminate day one if, you know, I have that opportunity.”
