Wisconsin Democrats on Jill Underly’s Primary Victory
MADISON, Wis. — New reporting revealed yet another shady connection for extreme right-wing politician Brad Schimel—this time to his new billionaire benefactor Elon Musk.
The New York Times and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that just days before Elon Musk poured millions into supporting Brad Schimel’s campaign and his hostile takeover of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, Musk’s company Tesla was in court suing the state of Wisconsin over a state car dealership law.
“Elon Musk and Brad Schimel actually have a lot in common. They both only care about themselves and they both want a hostile takeover of the Wisconsin Supreme Court to serve powerful, corrupt and extreme interests,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Deputy Communications Director Haley McCoy. ”Elon Musk is bankrolling Brad Schimel’s campaign at the same time he steers a lawsuit towards the Wisconsin Supreme Court—where he’s counting on Shady Schimel to be the deciding vote.”

New York Times: “Mr. Musk, the country’s largest donor during the 2024 election, is returning to campaigns by funding a new effort to help elect Brad Schimel, the conservative candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. It is Mr. Musk’s first public political spending after Election Day. America PAC spent $1 million on canvassing operations in the state, according to a new campaign finance filing that became public Thursday. […] In January, Mr. Musk’s electric car company, Tesla, sued Wisconsin to challenge a state law forbidding manufacturers from owning dealerships. Eight days later, Mr. Musk wrote on his social media site, ‘Very important to vote Republican for the Wisconsin Supreme Court to prevent voting fraud.’”
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “The entry by these Musk groups in the Supreme Court race comes a little more than a week after Tesla sued the state in Outagamie County Circuit Court to overturn a decision that blocks the company from opening dealerships in the state. Tesla applied to open dealerships in Madison, Milwaukee, Glendale and Grand Chute.”
