ICYMI: State Sen. Candidate Kris Alfheim, Rep. Lori Palmeri Call Out Wisconsin Republicans for Failing Public Schools
MADISON, Wis. — Today, State Senate candidate Kristin Alfheim, Representative Lori Palmeri, and local educator Andy Brault held a press conference in Menasha before students go back to school next week to talk about how Wisconsin Republicans have left our kids behind over the last 13 years.
From draining the Universities of Wisconsin system and our technical colleges of funding to neglecting our public schools, Wisconsin Republicans have led a decade-long attack on public education that is hurting our students and hurting our state. It’s only in the past six years under Governor Evers and Wisconsin Democrats’ leadership that Wisconsin schools have begun to recover, and Democrats like Lori Palmeri and Kris Alfheim are running to go back to Madison to continue the work to support our kids and schools.
Watch the press event and see what speakers had to say, in part, below:
Candidate for State Senate Kris Alfheim: “I’m running for State Senate on a simple idea that maybe, just maybe, people in Wisconsin like me are tired of the bickering, of the gridlock, of the dysfunction, and are ready to actually get things done. One of my opponent’s top priorities is to take advantage of taxpayers by funneling our tax dollars into private and religious schools rather than our public schools. That’s the last thing we need. I’m running for State Senate to ensure that every child in Wisconsin, no matter the zip code that they live in, has access to the best public education that we can provide.”
Rep. Lori Palmeri: “The Republicans’ decade-long attack on K-12 education, and higher education is personal to me. I’m an alum of UW Oshkosh at Fox Cities and proud to be an alum of UW Oshkosh and UW Milwaukee. This school and the others saved my life and made it possible for me to get a degree as a non-traditional student. It’s sad to know that students like me won’t have the same opportunities that I did because of the Republican games.”
Local educator Andy Brault: “For years as a professional educator, we had to rely on government assistance to raise our family. This all took place after Scott Walker and the Republican Legislature removed my teachers’ union of the ability to collectively bargain. The Republican administration and the legislature that prevented my family from having a decent living wage also stripped our schools of the funding that we need to educate the over 800,000 students in our public schools. […] Despite Governor Evers’ efforts to at least improve that shortfall that was left by the Walker Administration, the Republicans in the legislature are doing everything in their power to limit the funds that our communities so desperately need.”
