ICYMI: Gov. Evers Takes Emergency Action to Stabilize Wisconsin Child Care

MADISON, Wis. — Today, Gov. Evers announced he was directing $170 million in emergency funding to stabilize Wisconsin’s child care system after Republicans last week blocked action to maintain funding for child care providers. Thanks to this action by Gov. Evers, Wisconsin’s Child Care Counts program will continue at current levels through June 2025.

According to experts, absent action to save Child Care Counts, more than 2,000 child care programs were projected to close, resulting in more than 87,000 children without child care and the loss of more than 4,880 child care jobs.

“Without this emergency action from Gov. Evers, Wisconsin’s child care system was set to collapse—all because Republican politicians in Madison have consistently rejected taking any action to address this crisis,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Joe Oslund. “We should be making it easier, not harder, for parents to get to work and provide for their families. Republicans need to come to the table with serious solutions to address our child care crisis, not play reckless political games that hurt our economy and threaten the child care providers that thousands of Wisconsin families depend on.”
