ICYMI: Cheeseheads Steal the Show at the DNC
MADISON, Wis. — Yesterday, the Wisconsin delegation stole the show at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, donning the Dairy State’s trademark cheeseheads and putting the RNC’s imitation to shame.
Wisconsin Democrats have repped dairy pride and turned the DNC into a Packers home game for years—even in enemy territory. Wisconsin’s delegation wore cheeseheads on the convention floor the last time the DNC gathered in Chicago in 1996. One of those cheeseheads is now held at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.
If you missed the cheeseheads last night, check them out below:
CNN:Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “‘At the Wisconsin delegation’s Tuesday morning breakfast, state Democratic Party of Wisconsin chairman Ben Wikler indicated everyone was given a cheesehead and told to carry it, sit with it and wear it at (the) United Center. ‘This is your charge,’ he said. ‘The cheeseheads don’t glow,’ he said, referring to Kentucky’s hats. ‘It will figuratively emanate (a) kind of dairy goodness.’”
POLITICO:@Phil_Lewis_:
Wall Street Journal: “Ben Wikler, chair of the Democratic party in Wisconsin, had a message Tuesday morning for the state’s delegates who are planning to watch the convention’s speeches later that night at the United Center in Chicago: Bring your own cheesehead. The state-by-state roll call will give them a moment in the spotlight to display their pride with bold yellow headwear, he said at a breakfast meeting.”
