NEW VIDEO: Eric Hovde in His Own Words on Stripping Wisconsinites of Their Healthcare

MADISON, Wis. —Donald Trump and other MAGA Republicans announced that they will be renewing their plans to “terminate” the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and strip hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites of their affordable health care coverage.

Eric Hovde (R–Laguna Beach) has long made one of his top priorities fully repealing the ACA, saying he wants to “defund every aspect of the ACA.” He specifically said he opposes the provisions protecting the over 850,000 Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions and the Tammy Baldwin-led measure that lets people stay on their family health plan until age 26.

Watch and listen to Hovde in his own words on how he would threaten Wisconsinites’ access to affordable health care:

Hovde: We have to try to defund every aspect of Obamacare.

Hovde: Look, the more we’ve moved to a socialized system of medicine, we’ve seen the quality of our health in this country decline.

Hovde: We have to start getting back to self-reliance, independence.

Hovde: But we also have to have people stand on their own two feet and start focusing on their own health. We have an obesity crisis! We’ve taken away, uh, uh, people’s self-responsibility to try to take care of their own health.

Moderator: Are there any prongs of the Affordable Care Act that you support, specifically some of the ones that seem to be more popular, including the provision of covering young adults or coverage for pre-existing conditions?

Hovde: No! I believe that the problem with our healthcare sector, over the last 30 years, has been ever increasing government involvement.

Hovde: As it pertains to allowing kids up to 26, you know, I understand it, but I also am concerned that we continue to extend a variation of childhood far too long. At 21 years old, my parents had, you know, one child and another child on the way, they were standing on their own two feet.
