MADISON, Wis. — As we approach the one year anniversary of the Dobbs Supreme Court decision, Wisconsin Republicans are doubling down on their anti-abortion extremism, even as the state continues to live under a dangerous, near-total abortion ban from 1849.
The leading potential GOP candidate for Senate former Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, has a long record of supporting abortion bans and rolling back Wisconsinites’ freedoms:
- Almost immediately after the Dobbs decision came down, Clarke compared abortion to slavery and praised the decision as “similar to a stay of execution”
- Clarke considers abortion to be “murder” and has even referred to it as “genocide.”
- Clarke has repeatedly called for bans on abortion.
“David Clarke fits right in with the rest of the radical, anti-abortion politicians in the GOP. It’s no wonder he is their leading candidate for Senate. But just like Wisconsinites rejected this same extremist agenda back in April, they’ll reject David Clarke,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Arik Wolk.
