Eric Hovde Refuses to Answer Questions About How He’s a Walking Conflict of Interest
MADISON, Wis. — On Monday, California bank owner Eric Hovde refused to answer questions about how he is a walking conflict of interest. When asked about his financial entanglement with his bank, Hovde refused to answer how he would avoid conflicts of interest if he were profiting from being the owner of Sunwest Bank and a member of the Senate.
Hovde has refused to give up ownership of his bank if elected to the Senate, meaning he would have extensive influence over banking-related policy and could even use taxpayers dollars to bail out his own bank. Hovde was forced to report this week that he is worth upwards of half a billion dollars and likely significantly more.
This comes as recent reports revealed that his bank is being propped up by millions of dollars in deposits from foreign banks and governments.
