Eric Hovde Doubles Down on Disastrous Hovde Plan During Senate Debate
MADISON, Wis. — During Friday night’s debate, Eric Hovde doubled down on his Hovde Plan to ban abortion, raise the retirement age, and repeal the Affordable Care Act. The Hovde Plan would be devastating for Wisconsinites, ripping away their health care, slashing their hard earned-benefits, and rolling back their fundamental freedoms.
The Hovde Plan to Ban Abortion
-
On Friday, Hovde doubled down on his opposition to Roe v. Wade and opposition to abortion rights.
-
Hovde has long supported the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which led to criminal abortion bans across the country—including Wisconsin’s—which had no exceptions for victims of rape or incest.
-
Hovde has said he is “totally opposed to abortion” and that he “oppose[s] legalized abortion” “from conception.”
-
Hovde was endorsed by a far-right anti-abortion group whose mission is to make abortion “legally unacceptable.” The group endorsed Hovde because he showed “strong support for federal right-to-life issues.”
The Hovde Plan to Raise the Retirement Age and Slash Social Security
-
During Friday’s debate, Hovde again called for cuts to seniors’ benefits.
-
Hovde has repeatedly called for increasing the retirement age for Wisconsinites.
-
If Hovde had his way, Social Security benefits would be cut by 28%, slashing individual benefits by more than $500 a month, $6,000 a year, per beneficiary.
The Hovde Plan to Repeal the Affordable Care Act
-
Hovde quadrupled down on his plan to overhaul the ACA during the debate, allowing insurance companies to rip off Wisconsinites.
-
Hovde has said there were “no ifs, ands, or buts” about the fact that he wants to repeal the ACA “in its entirety.”
-
Hovde would even repeal the provisions protecting those with pre-existing conditions and allowing young people to stay on their families’ health plans.
-
PolitiFact Wisconsin fact checked the claim that Eric Hovde wants to repeal the ACA and kick millions off their health insurance, and they found that the claim is TRUE.
