Derrick Van Orden’s Endless Summer Vacation Continues
LA CROSSE, Wis. — With Mike Johnson and House Republicans jetting off from DC for their summer vacation a week early, Derrick Van Orden is eschewing town halls with his constituents in favor of political events—once again putting political photo ops and social media tirades ahead of delivering for western Wisconsin.
Van Orden appears to have plenty of time to campaign for Donald Trump and his weird running mate. And he’s found plenty of time to lash out at his colleagues, spread misinformation, and a bizarre social media post about “a dirty diaper full of the refuse left by midwesterner who went on the vacation in the Middle East and decided to throw caution to the wind with street food.”
But apparently missing from Van Orden’s calendar is any official town hall with constituents to discuss the many critical priorities Van Orden has left undone in DC—including passing the Farm Bill and funding the government.
“Derrick Van Orden is making plenty of time for politics, being sure to prioritize campaigning for Donald Trump and his weird running mate—but no time for his constituents,” said 3rd Congressional District Democrats Chair William Garcia. “It’s clear why Derrick Van Orden is afraid to face the music at an official town hall: he knows he’s failed to deliver time and again on big promises—from passing a farm bill to funding the government—all while embarrassing himself with tantrums and bizarre social media posts. If Van Orden was hoping he could leave DC early for summer vacation and fly under the radar, he’s out of luck: he can’t escape his record of failing to deliver for western Wisconsin.”
