Democrats Embrace “For the People” on First Day of Democratic National Convention

MADISON, Wis. — Today, following the first day of the DNC and an address by President Biden, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler issued the following statement:

“Tonight, we witnessed in sharp relief the choice before us in this election: between Kamala Harris, who has dedicated her career to fighting for all Americans and delivers for the people of Wisconsin, and Donald Trump, who is running a campaign to roll back freedoms and deliver only for himself and his wealthy friends.

“We also witnessed tonight President Joe Biden’s ongoing act of political courage—one of the greatest examples of putting country over self in our history. Throughout his lifetime of public service, President Biden has stood unwavering for making the American Dream a reality for everyone, and for a future of more freedom, not less. We are grateful to President Biden for his lifetime of service, which continued on stage tonight as he passed the torch to a new generation of leadership, ensuring we defeat Donald Trump—the greatest threat to our freedoms in generations.

“As we heard tonight, Kamala Harris has made a career working for the people—as District Attorney working to lock up violent criminals and sex offenders, as Attorney General taking on Big Pharma and Wall Street Banks, as a Senator fighting for the reproductive freedom of women across the country, and as Vice President in the most pro-union administration in history alongside President Joe Biden. Kamala has always walked the walk for the people of our country.

“While Donald Trump wants to take America backwards with his vision of a country that works for the ultra-wealthy at the expense of the rest of us, we know that Kamala Harris will fight for the people because she’s dedicated her life to doing just that. And we know that the Harris-Walz ticket will continue that fight for the people and deliver on the promise for a brighter tomorrow.”
