MADISON, Wis. — Today, Republican politicians in Madison introduced radical legislation seeking to cement Wisconsin’s archaic 1849 criminal abortion ban and distract from Dan Kelly’s extreme record on reproductive freedom and abortion access. Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler issued the following statement:
“Any legislation that leaves Wisconsin’s archaic 1849 abortion ban in place is still an abortion ban. This publicity stunt bill is a desperate attempt by Republican politicians in Madison to distract from an extreme MAGA agenda that has already lost them multiple statewide elections and could cost them another on April 4. It is clear a broad majority of Wisconsinites support repealing the 1849 ban in full and restoring Roe as the law of the land, and it is time for the gerrymandered MAGA majority in the Legislature to stop with the political games and cheap distractions.”
