Wisconsin Democrats Condemn Rise In Anti-Asian Hate Crimes

Feb 25, 2021

(MADISON) — Today, in response to the recent spike in anti-Asian hate crime across the nation, Democratic Party of Wisconsin chair Ben Wikler and West Allis Alderman and Wisconsin AAPI for Biden Leadership Council Co-Chair Angelito Tenorio issued the following statement:

“The recent rise in anti-Asian hate crimes across the country is alarming and unacceptable. Since this pandemic began, we’ve seen thousands of cases of hate against Asian Americans in communities far and wide, and the recent attacks against Asian American elders have been especially heinous,” said Chair Wikler. “I join with our AAPI Caucus and Democrats across Wisconsin in condemning these crimes.”

“No one should fear leaving their home because they worry they could be a target of hate,” said Alderman Tenorio. “Words matter, and too often those in positions of great power have stoked the flames of anti-Asian hate. Donald Trump has left office, but his use of racist terms from our nation’s highest seat of power continues to ring in the ears of those perpetrating these foul acts of hate. As we work to bounce back from this moment of crisis, we all must join in the work of building the strong, resilient communities that will reject this hate and give everyone a place.”
