MADISON — Three days out from Election Day, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin is continuing to count down a “Worst Of” list of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir‘s career-long record of selling out Wisconsin to enrich her insurance industry and corporate special interest backers.
#3. Vukmir Sided With Insurance Companies Over People On Autism Coverage Today, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin released a new video from Khrys, a mother from Wisconsin Rapids whose son has autism, who is speaking out against Leah Vukmir’s record of siding with insurance companies over Wisconsinites.
In 2007, Vukmir blocked two separate bills that would have required insurance companies to cover Wisconsinites’ autism treatments. As chair of the Assembly Committee on Health and Healthcare Reform, Vukmir refused to hold a hearing or a vote on 2007 Assembly 417, which would have required “health insurance coverage of treatment for autism spectrum disorders,” ultimately killing the bill. Later on, Vukmir worked to derail, table, and kill 2007 Senate Bill 178, a bipartisan bill that the Senate passed to expand autism treatment coverage.
