In recognition of the anniversary of passage of the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Martha Laning released the following statement:
“As Democrats, we believe that anyone who is willing to work hard should have a fair shot to get ahead. That’s why we are are working tirelessly to increase incomes and give hard working Americans the raise they deserve.
“The vast majority of Americans believe that raising the minimum wage is critical as we work to lift people of out of poverty, grow the middle class, and build a strong economy that works for everyone. Instead of more tax breaks for special interests and corporations, it’s time for us to ensure that Americans who work hard and play by the rules get the wages they deserve.
“Unfortunately, not everyone agrees. Donald Trump, the GOP Presidential nominee, thinks that the federal minimum wage of $7.25 is too high. Trump even said that having a ‘low minimum wage is not a bad thing for this country.’ This isn’t surprising coming from the same billionaire who openly “hoped” for the housing market to crash in 2007 – costing thousands of American’s their homes – so he could “make a lot of money”.
“In November, we need to elect leaders who will help to raise the incomes and wages for every American, not just billionaires likes Donald Trump.”
