On the Eve of the Republican Debate, Ron Johnson, Sean Duffy and Paul Ryan Still Refuse to Denounce Donald Trump
Last night, Donald Trump trounced his opponents in the Super Tuesday competition and it is clearer then ever that he is the inevitable candidate to be the Republican nominee for President. Trumps success comes on the back of bashing immigrants, degrading women, not denouncing white supremacist groups like the KKK, and Republicans like Ron Johnson, Sean Duffy, and Paul Ryan refusing to denounce him.
Look at the failure of Wisconsin’s Republican leadership to denounce Donald Trump for what he is:
Last week, Representative Sean Duffy said he would stand with Donald Trump.
Senator Ron Johnson, who positively compared his campaign to Trumps, said he would stand with whoever the Republican nominee is, even if it is Donald Trump.
Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House of Representatives, made headlines by saying the presidential focus should be on policy not white supremacist groups. However, he too refused to denounce Donald Trump and said he would support whoever the republican nominee is.
““While some Republicans have denounced Donald Trump and refuse to support him, it is disturbing that Wisconsin’s Republican leaders Ron Johnson, Sean Duffy and Paul Ryan refuse to do so,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Executive Director Kory Kozloski said on Thursday. “It is a scathing indictment of what they stand for when they are holding views similar to that of KKK leader David Duke.”
In addition to the failure of Johnson, Duffy and Ryan, local Republican leadership like Scott Walker and legislative leadership have refused to take a stand against Donald Trump. “If Republican leadership won’t stand up to Trump, then how can we know they will stand up to bigotry and work to make our state a more inclusive place.
