Statement of WisDems Chair Mike Tate on Rob Zerban's Primary Win

Aug 11, 2014

The following is a statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate on Rob Zerban winning the Democratic nomination for Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District.

“Rob Zerban was an able challenger to Paul Ryan in 2012, giving Ryan the closest race of his career and winning Ryan’s home ward, even as Ryan was at the top of the ticket as the Republican vice presidential nominee.

“Now, after two more years of Paul Ryan’s failed solutions on everything from budgets to Social Security, Rob’s experience and positive vision to truly represent this great district hold even greater appeal for the people of Southeast Wisconsin.

“While Paul Ryan has spent his time shutting down the government, trying to sue the President with John Boehner, and voting against critical anti-poverty measures like an increase in the minimum wage and the extension of unemployment benefits, Rob Zerban has remained focused on commonsense solutions that will truly benefit all of the district, not just the super-rich.
“Paul Ryan is a standard-bearer for John Boehner’s do-nothing Congress and its repeated efforts to hinder any kind of economic progress for the middle class. The people of Southeast Wisconsin deserve better and that’s what they’ll get with Rob Zerban.”
