Scott Walker has blamed “uncertainty” surrounding the Affordable Care Act, the weather, protests, the debt ceiling debate, and even unrest in Syria for Wisconsin’s abysmal jobs performance on his watch, but those excuses are falling apart faster than Walker’s approval ratings.
As Walker now trails Democratic challenger and former Trek Bicycle Executive Mary Burke among likely voters, the latest, most accurate federal jobs data shows Wisconsin ranked dead last – 10th out of 10 states – on job growth in the Midwest and 35th in the nation in overall job growth since Walker took office. Monthly jobs data also shows that Wisconsin was one of only five states to lose jobs in each of the past two months.
One of Walker’s favorite excuses — blame the President and the Affordable Care Act — for his complete failure to meet his central campaign promise to create 250,000 new jobs was further eroded as the Appleton Post Crescent yesterday reported that some 600 new jobs will come to the Fox Valley courtesy of the federal health care law.
“As Wisconsin is languishing behind the rest of the Midwest and most of the nation on job creation Scott Walker has offered up ridiculously flimsy excuses for his failure to create jobs instead of an actual plan to stimulate our economy,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Wednesday. “What’s his next excuse — too many fried foods at the State Fair? This is a governor who ‘absolutely’ wanted to be judged on his ability to create jobs and by that measure he is a complete and utter failure.”
