A streak of public opinion polling showing a statistical dead heat in the race for governor is turning heads even among beltway pundits, as a recap of the top tier gubernatorial races around the country on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” showed what we’ve known all along: Scott Walker is in trouble with Wisconsin voters.
Walker’s failures since taking office are plentiful, most notably his failure to meet his central campaign promise to create 250,000 new jobs. Under Walker, Wisconsin has consistently lagged behind the rest of the nation and our neighbors in the Midwest on job creation, ranking 9th out of 10 Midwest states and 35th in the nation in job growth.
It’s becoming clear to pundits around the country that Scott Walker is in the toughest fight of his political career. ‘Morning Joe’ contributor Mark Halprin called Burke a “good candidate” who is “well known” in Wisconsin, and he’s right. Mary Burke’s serious, thoughtful plan to invest in Wisconsin workers and turn our state into a thriving, top ten economy is what voters have wanted to hear for four years, and enthusiasm for Burke’s campaign is growing as she connects with more Wisconsinites in her travels around the state.
“Poll after poll has shown that Wisconsin voters know Mary Burke has what it takes to beat Scott Walker in November,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Wednesday. “And not only is Mary a great candidate with a real plan to turn Wisconsin around, her style as a results-oriented, collaborative leader is a complete contrast to the failure and political corruption of Scott Walker. The difference between Burke and Walker is like night and day, and in November voters will choose Burke’s vision for Wisconsin over four more years of the total, utter failure that is Scott Walker.”
