Statement of WisDems Chair Mike Tate in Response to Reports of Gov. Walker Special Session

Mar 10, 2014

Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate in response to reports that Gov. Walker would call a special legislative session to ram through restrictions on voting rights:

“There’s a reason Scott Walker can’t get his voting suppression bill to become a law: it’s an unconstitutional attack on the ability of seniors, veterans, students, and minorities to fully exercise one of their most basic fundamental rights at the ballot box.

“And now, Scott Walker and Republicans in the legislature want to change the rules of the game with a special legislative session.

“That’s because, without real support for his failed economic policies or his radical social agenda, Scott Walker knows that the only way he can win is by keeping more people at home on Election Day.

“But we won’t let him succeed. Wisconsin is renowned for our fair, honest elections and our history of robust voter participation where every voice counts — and we’ll fight to keep it that way.”
