After a short statewide tour to spin his irresponsible tax plan that adds to the state’s long-term debt, Scott Walker is today back on his regular nationwide “Abandoning Wisconsin Families” tour with a trip to grab more out-of-state special interest cash at the estate of Dallas billionaire Harlan Crow, a longtime funder of extreme Republican candidates and causes.
Walker’s trip comes just days after his most recent campaign finance report detailed 86 receipts of $10,000 – the maximum allowed under Wisconsin law – 62 of which were from out-of-state donors, including Crow. Of Walker’s total haul, $2.585 million, more than half, came from out-of-state donors.
Crow, a member of the committee that helped found Club for Growth, seems to have an odd preference for right-wing bullies and dictators. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the real estate tycoon’s mansion is known for its backyard garden full of statues which include Mao Zedong, Vladimir Lenin, Fidel Castro, Joseph Stalin, Benito Mussolini and Nazi German air force commander Hermann Göring.
“Scott Walker has said repeatedly that governors should be judged based on the company they keep and I hope Wisconsin voters hold him to that, ” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Tuesday. “Because while working families in Wisconsin are struggling to get ahead, Scott Walker is flying around the country rubbing elbows with questionable public figures. We need a governor who will focus on fixing the problems affecting real working people in our state not pandering to the extreme special interest billionaires who keep benefiting from his policies.”
