Following is a statement from Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate on the news that Wisconsin posted its worst second quarter jobs numbers in the past three years.
“In addition to the biggest cut to public education in Wisconsin’s history, Scott Walker might just achieve another milestone during his first term in office — he might avoid taking accountability for a single thing he’s done. Walker promised ‘unbelievable amounts’ of jobs in the weeks and months after the recall. Well, where are they?
“Instead of focusing on job creation, Scott Walker and his legislature rammed through a divisive agenda that ignored the needs of the middle-class and rewarded those who least need help — corporate special interests and the wealthy.
“As a result, we’ve added 37% fewer jobs this quarter than the year before and yielded the weakest second quarter private-sector job growth in three years.”
“To be clear, real people are suffering here in Wisconsin because of the choices Scott Walker has made. That’s why 70% of Wisconsinites say that their personal financial situation has stayed the same or gotten worse since Scott Walker took office and more than 65% — nearly two–thirds of the state – think that Wisconsin’s economy will stay the same or get worse over the next year.
“With every passing day we get a new reminder of why Wisconsin needs a governor who is less concerned with self-promotion and more focused on putting Wisconsinites back to work. While Scott Walker is out on his chest-thumping book tour working-class families in Wisconsin are starting to ask why he isn’t here working for them.”
