Despite pledging to “run the most open, transparent gubernatorial administration in the history of the universe,” Scott Walker has delayed the launch of a financial transparency initiative ordered in his 2011 budget.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that, six months after it was expected to launch, an online database disclosing financial data such as government grants, state employee salaries, and state agency expenditures is still not active – and the Walker administration doesn’t have a target date for the launch.
In March 2013, the U.S. Public Interest Research Group gave Wisconsin an “F” on its annual transparency report card – one of only five states in the nation and the only Midwest state to receive a failing grade – for failing in online spending transparency.
“Scott Walker isn’t running the most ‘open, transparent’ administration in Wisconsin history, but he’s definitely running the most traveled one,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Friday. “Scott Walker has all the time in the world to campaign for president in states like Iowa, Indiana and Michigan, but can’t be bothered with good governance here in Wisconsin.”
