ICYMI: Senator Tammy Baldwin: “Don’t let politics obstruct progress”

Jun 09, 2013

Scott Walker is playing politics by not accepting $1.1 billion in federal funds to expand the state’s successful BadgerCare program – and it’s moving Wisconsin in the wrong direction.

That’s according to Senator Tammy Baldwin, who writes in an editorial in the La Crosse Tribune that, “Instead of putting his personal politics aside, Walker has put forward a misguided plan that covers fewer people at a higher cost to taxpayers. When compared with expanding BadgerCare under the Affordable Care Act, the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau estimates that the Walker plan will cost state taxpayers $119 million more during the next two years to cover 85,000 fewer people.”

Senator Baldwin also notes that, “Our state has a proud tradition of advancing health care reforms, and I am disappointed that Walker has broken with that tradition, but I will not. I am committed to making sure that America’s new health care law works for Wisconsin and fixing what doesn’t. That includes doing what I have done in the Senate, supporting bipartisan amendments to improve the law, reaching across party lines and finding common-sense areas where we can make it better.”
