As Scott Walker was campaigning for president in Iowa, the final stop in a week’s worth of time spent everywhere but fixing his messes in Wisconsin, a Janesville-based company was reporting that they’d be making a significant economic development investment in Iowa, not Wisconsin.
That’s according to the Janesville Gazette, which reports that Janesville-based Data Dimensions has broken ground on a $6 million operations facility in Iowa.
Scott Walker’s flagship jobs agency, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, was created to serve as the state’s key job creation and retention agency.
The most current and accurate federal jobs numbers available indicate that Wisconsin ranks 44th in the nation in job creation, 45th in wage growth and dead last in short term job growth. April jobs numbers also show that Wisconsin lost more than 22,000 private sector jobs in April – the most of any state in the Midwest and the state’s highest single-month loss since the height of the national recession.
In contrast, Iowa added 1,700 private sector jobs in April.
“Wisconsin lost more than 22,000 jobs in April, while our neighbors in Iowa were adding jobs,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Friday. “I know Scott Walker was really trying to win over the Iowa caucus voters when he was there campaigning for president, but he didn’t have to take a bunch of Wisconsin jobs with him to make his case. Because of Walker’s extreme austerity measures and inattention to Wisconsin, we don’t have any jobs to spare.”
