Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate in response to “Struggling” Congressman Sean Duffy’s vote against the so-called “fiscal cliff” deal.
“Following weeks of dangerous inaction by House Republicans, the fiscal cliff deal voted on yesterday was a major step in moving our economy forward. It included painful compromises for progressives, but made good on the president’s promise not to raise taxes on the middle class to preserve breaks for the super-rich.
“The bill also addressed the so-called “dairy cliff” important to Wisconsin’s family farmers, as well as other important industries in Wisconsin.
“The legislation enjoyed broad bipartisan support — even far-right leaders like Paul Ryan, Ron Johnson and Reid Ribble voted for the compromise.
“‘Struggling’ Sean Duffy, meanwhile, found himself still in the thrall of the Tea Party.
“While there ARE NOT a lot of millionaires and billionaires in Wisconsin’s Seventh Congressional District, there ARE plenty of farmers and working families. Not for the first time, Duffy once again voted directly against the interests of Wisconsin’s north woods families — and was out of step even with people like Paul Ryan and Ron Johnson, who never will be accused of being on the side of the working man and woman.
“It was a shameful vote for someone who says he “struggles” on a $174,000 salary and who is willing to fight to preserve tax breaks for billionaires while raising them on Wisconsin’s working families.”
