Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate in response to Scott Walker’s efforts to float a plan to further rig Wisconsin elections.
“Once again, Scott Walker is floating his Tea Party sugar plums out-of-state and before closed rooms of rich donors.
“He’s calling the idea to further rig Wisconsin’s elections by changing how we apportion our votes to the Electoral College ‘interesting.’
“’Interesting’ is a word that implies “interests,” and it’s clear that the only “interests” Scott Walker has in mind are his own.
“What Wisconsinites are “interested” in is getting back to work, investing in education and infrastructure, putting an end to the corruption that has marked Scott Walker’s administration, and returning to the high quality of life that makes Wisconsin a great place to live, work and raise a family.
“With yet another cheap pander to far-right extremists, it appears that Scott Walker is looking ahead to his 2016 “interests” by compromising Wisconsin’s values for his personal political gain – at a time when Wisconsinites are “interested” in seeing his leadership in creating the 250,000 jobs he promised.
“What is “interesting” is that, even as Wisconsin has been badly out-paced by our Midwest neighbors in economic growth due to his failed policies, we’ve seen a governor more “interested” in limiting access to the polls, coming up with excuses to prevent people from voting and now, seeking ways to mitigate his Tea Party’s failure to win statewide elections.
“Even another Tea Party governor, Bob McDonnell of Virginia, has rejected Scott Walker’s self-serving plotting.
“Scott Walker should look out for Wisconsin’s interests and fix his utter jobs failures instead of looking out for his own.”
