Media are reporting on a press conference held yesterday where Mayor Tom Barrett took Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan to task for things said on the campaign trail recently — in particular how the two Republicans have written off half of Americans and how they would rather go after the Public Broadcasting Service instead of asking millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share. Held just before a $50,000-$100,000-per-couple fundraiser for Paul Ryan at the Pfister Hotel, a special guest also joined the mayor’s press conference.
As reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, ““Mitt Romney has decided he’s going to crack down on Sesame Street,” Barrett said while appearing at a news conference on Cathedral Square. As he spoke, Barrett stood next to someone dressed in a Big Bird suit. “Why in God’s name would you want to go after Sesame Street when the people in this country want him to go after Wall Street,” Barrett added.”
“It’s clear the Republican presidential ticket has ruffled more than a few feathers lately,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Sunday. “Whether it’s writing off half of Americans and saying our seniors, veterans, homeowners and students want to be dependent on the government, or saying they would attack Sesame Street instead of cracking down on Wall Street, or their plans to for tax giveaways to millionaires and billionaires, or their plans to end Medicare as we know it — voters are seeing their clear choice to continue moving Wisconsin, America and this economy forward is with Barack Obama and Joe Biden.”
