Wisconsin Democrats to Take Action Against Senate Recall Power Grab

Nov 27, 2011

MADISON-Wisconsin Democrats on Tuesday will seek to intervene in a lawsuit filed by Tea Party Republicans in Wisconsin Supreme Court that would effectively end the current recall efforts against three incumbent Senate Republicans.

The Republican Supreme Court suit seeks to undo the recent actions of the Legislature and move to what they see as a friendlier venue the legal questions arising over state Senate recall lines.

The motion to intervene, which will be filed Tuesday, will be on behalf of recall committees, and the people who established them, against Sens. Terry Moulton, Pam Galloway and Van Wanggaard.

“Having attacked Wisconsin’s values and institutions, Republicans are right to fear the democratic tool of recall. It shows their true conviction that, rather than face the music, they would try to change the rules and engage in frivolous lawsuits that amount to little more than power grabs,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Monday.
