Personal Foul: As Unemployment Rises and Jobs Are Lost, Scott Walker Does Lambeau Leap

Oct 31, 2011

MADISON – Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate in response to Scott Walker’s public relations “jobs” events Tuesday at Lambeau Field and in Sheboygan.

“Scott Walker took some time off today from raising corporate cash in Tennessee and Iowa to continue a public relations tour that seeks to mask the grim facts of the unemployment crisis his policies have exacerbated in Wisconsin. He’s doing a touchdown dance in Lambeau even though his administration has committed personal fouls against Wisconsin’s families and unnecessary roughness on the small businesses of Wisconsin that should be his real focus.

Walker ran for office on a record of having never focused on jobs creation as Milwaukee County Executive, a phony jobs plan that even he admitted was a joke, a “brown bag” scam that was purely superficial sloganeering and came into office with bold promises that lacked even a single actual policy provision.

A pliant press has repeated his claims about being focused on jobs merely because he holds the dog-and-pony shows that he continues today. This even though the signature accomplishments of this administration-apart from the ghastly budget bill-have been making it so people may hide guns in their pants in the Capitol, so that drunk drivers who kill have an easier time of it, so high school students don’t learn what a condom is and so the children of his donors get cushy jobs.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin has lost private-sector jobs every single month since Scott Walker rammed through his disastrous budget and unemployment has risen from 7.4 to 7.9 percent, even though the rest of the nation has seen modest jobs growth.

Lambeau Field is a place where Wisconsin learns about pride and teamwork. Today, amid a full-blown unemployment crisis, we see once again that Scott Walker plays for the name on the back of the jersey-not the one on the front.”
