MADISON-Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate following the nonpartisan estimation that 65,000 Wisconsinites, about half of them children, would lose their health care as a direct result of Scott Walker’s plans.
“To take away a child’s health care coverage to pay for tax cuts for the richest one percent requires a set of values that does not jibe with the Wisconsin most people know. It is certainly not a partisan issue, given that the BadgerCare coverage upon which these children rely was initiated by a Republican governor, with bipartisan support. Only in this season of division and extremism could someone take a raise of $7,300 at the same time insisting that because someone was not rich, they should not enjoy the same claim to health and well-being.
Scott Walker made sure that we call it a Christmas Tree. And yet, as we enter the Season of Light, how does hurling children from BadgerCare honor the Man for whom the season is named?”
