Dean Knudson, GOP “Do as I Say, Not as I Do”
MADISON– Despite campaigning on promises to reign in overspending and pledging to vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes and fees, Dean Knudson voted this week against measures to require a supermajority of legislators to pass fee hikes, local property tax increases and any financial measure that increases the public debt.
Knudson voted in partisan lockstep with Republican leadership in the Assembly to rush through a toothless bill that merely pays lip service to fiscal responsibility, rejecting amendments to strengthen the bill simply because they were offered by Democrats.
“Dean Knudson and his fellow freshmen in the Legislature were elected on promises of fiscal restraint and a commitment to job creation and economic recovery above all else,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Thursday. “Not a month into the legislative session, it is clear that Knudson has no intention of making good on those promises, and will spend his time in Madison taking orders from the Republican leadership instead of working to make life better for his constituents in the 30th district.”
