MADISON – Scott Walker, who served as his chief cheerleader in Wisconsin, avoided his close friend and “cousin” George W. Bush Thursday during the former president’s visit to Beloit.
Walker was co-chair of his state re-election campaign and a rigorous booster for the Bush policies of chronic deficits, out-of-control spending, and economic deregulation. Bush jokingly called Walker his “cousin” because of their closeness. And Walker now is channeling the Bush legacy with his unfunded plan to give $1.8 billion in taxes to the richest one percent of Wisconsinites, at the expense of the Badger State’s middle class.
“Scott Walker was the one person in Wisconsin who shook the pom-pons most vigorously in praise of the George W. Bush policies of reckless greed that directly caused the Recession, but when “W” came to Wisconsin yesterday, Walker didn’t bat an eyelash,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Friday. “But with his plans to throw Wisconsin’s working families under the bus for a tax cut for the rich and nearly double our state’s $2.7 billion debt in the process, it looks like Scott Walker still ‘hearts’ George Bush from afar.”
