Mary Williams: Taxpayer Funded for Eight Years, Paid Her Own Income Taxes Twice

Oct 19, 2010

MADISON – Representative Mary Williams (R-Medford) talks a big game about taxes, but the truth is that while Williams’ legislative salary has been paid by taxpayers for eight years, she has only had to pay her own income taxes twice.

“There’s no other way to say it – Rep. Williams is a hypocrite when it comes to her tough talk on taxes,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate.  “To live off taxpayer money and not pay her fair share is typical.  After all, she did vote against closing a loophole that allowed big corporations to dodge state taxes by setting up an address in another state.  Birds of a feather flock together.”

Records show that since her first year in the Assembly in 2003, Rep. Williams has collected more than $360,000 in taxpayer-funded salary, but has only paid income taxes twice in that time.
