“Party of No” Chair Michael Steele Promotes RNC Obstructionism in Wisconsin

MADISON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele will be in Burlington on Saturday to promote the Republican Party and their obstructionist, “Party of No” tactics.

“Since taking over at the RNC, Michael Steele has worked to obstruct virtually every reform that Americans want and need,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate. “From the federal stimulus to health care reform, Steele and Republicans in Congress have repeatedly stood in the way of progress for the American people.”

Under Steele’s leadership, the RNC has actively worked to prevent reforms that are badly needed after eight years of the Bush-Cheney administration. Steele was a vocal critic of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which has saved or created tens of thousands of jobs in Wisconsin. Now, he and his allies are actively trying to prevent the passage of meaningful health insurance reform that would guarantee stable and secure health care for all Americans. Most recently, Steele opposed President Obama’s efforts to bring the 2016 Olympics to Chicago, which would bring an economic boon to Wisconsin.

“Democrats are willing to put politics aside and pass health insurance reform that will benefit everyone, while the RNC has shown they’re not above using scare-tactics and false claims to maintain the status quo,” said Tate. “There’s a time for politics and there’s a time for doing what’s best for our country – but Steele and his Republican allies haven’t realized this yet.”
