MADISON – Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate released this statement following the announcement of the passing of Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA).
“America lost a giant today.
Senator Ted Kennedy dedicated his life to serving others. In so doing, he inspired generations of citizens with his work on poverty, civil rights, education, and especially his belief that every single American deserves access to quality affordable health care.
As our nation’s leaders and the Democratic Party search for the words to honor Kennedy’s service, we should thank him for truly being the Senator for every American. He was the cornerstone and voice for the Democratic Party whenever we lost our way or came to a bump in the road. Kennedy comforted and inspired – whether filling the void left by his brothers or being among the first to endorse Barack Obama for President – helping light the path for a new generation of leadership in this country.
Today we miss Senator Kennedy, but we know that tomorrow – and far into the future – Americans who may never know his name will lead better lives and prosper because of his work.”
