DPW Chair Wineke Statement on Republican Tea Bag Party

Apr 14, 2009

MADISON – Democratic Party of Wisconsin (DPW) Chair Joe Wineke today released the following statement regarding the Republican Tea Bag Party in Madison today.

“This Tea Bag Party was billed as a grassroots rally against taxes and spending, but when was the last time you saw a grassroots group hire 15 roadies and erect a 25-foot stadium screen?

“When you look behind the curtain, you’ll see that this so-called grassroots movement is being bankrolled by special interest groups desperately fighting to protect the Bush tax cuts for multi-millionaires and big corporations.

“These right-wing groups are supporting the same failed policies of the past that plunged us into this economic mess in the first place. This is yet another example of how the right-wing Republicans haven’t offered any new ideas; all they’ve been able to muster is a cacophony of ‘Nos.’

“While the right-wing is busy playing with tea bags and supporting the trickle down economics of the past, the rest of America is supporting President Obama and his agenda for change.”
