DPW Statement on State of the Union Address

Jan 18, 2008

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chairman Joe Wineke released the following statement today, in response to President Bush’s State of the Union address last night:

“Despite his best efforts, President Bush cannot hide from his major mistakes and his failure to provide leadership on the issues that matter most to Americans and to Wisconsinites, from education to health care to the economy.

“After seven years of failed Republican leadership, Americans have had enough. As we look ahead, it’s clear that the Republican candidates for president simply offer more of the same. Americans want change, not a third Bush term.

“Every Democratic candidate has a plan to end the war in Iraq; none of the Republican candidates do. Every Democratic candidate has a plan to expand health care coverage and cut costs; none of the Republican candidates do. Every Democratic candidate will end President Bush’s reckless tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and restore fiscal discipline; none of the Republican candidates will. And the list goes on.

“After suffering seven years of an abysmal Bush administration and the consequences of such failed leadership, this country is craving the change our Democratic candidates will bring, not more of the same.”
