NEW REPORT: Wisconsin Unemployment Rate Has Dropped by Two Thirds Relative to 2020 Thanks to Gov. Evers

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development reported yesterday that the Wisconsin unemployment rate is three times better than in 2020 (3.9% now, versus 14.1% in April 2020) and well below the national average. Thanks to Gov. Evers’ and President Biden’s leadership, and despite Republicans obstructing pandemic relief, Wisconsin is on its way to bouncing back better than before.

Wisconsin is one of the top states for getting shots in arms, with nearly 5 million doses administered, and families and small businesses are receiving support as the state fully reopens. The Governor has also made record investments in rural broadband thanks to President Biden’s American Rescue Plan. But there is still work to be done. To ensure Wisconsin can fully bounce back from the pandemic and recover better than it was before, Gov. Evers has rolled out his Badger Bounceback agenda, and called a special session of the state legislature to expand BadgerCare and to invest in much-needed economic development projects.

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement:

“Thanks to Governor Evers’ steady leadership, Wisconsin has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation. Together, Governor Evers, President Biden, and Wisconsin’s Congressional Democrats have quickly delivered relief to working families, with the Governor already announcing millions in small business relief and rural broadband funding. But we can’t let up now. We know families and businesses across Wisconsin and the country are still fighting to bounce back from a once-in-a-lifetime crisis.

“Every step of the way, Republicans have played political games and failed to listen to Wisconsinites. They have tried to slow down pandemic relief, gutted popular proposals from the state budget, and even turned down billions in federal dollars – all to avoid expanding health care and reaching bipartisan solutions with the governor. Enough is enough. This is the moment to rebuild a new economy that works for every Wisconsinite by implementing Governor Evers’ Badger Bounceback agenda and passing the Americans Jobs Plan and the American Families Plan. These historic investments are the foundations of middle-class prosperity for generations to come. It’s time for Wisconsin Republicans to stop playing politics and start working with Governor Evers to secure our state’s future.”
